Cuba dedicates annually, 1.7% of its Gross Domestic Product to scientific – technical activities, the highest index of the Latin American countries.

Scientific research dedicates about 0.9% of PIB; when in Latin America the average is 0.3. We count on 1.8 scientists and engineers per 100 inhabitants, higher than the rest of the 3rd world countries.

There are 222 entities completely aimed to the scientific – technical activities in Cuba, and they gather about 31 thousand workers; more than 120 of them are important research centers. The scientific poles gather more than 28 thousand researchers, teachers, engineers, technicians and other workers.

In the 2000, Cuban companies have directly participated in the execution or financing of more than 1600 technological innovation projects. Thousand of Cubans participate every year in the science and technical forums at different levels. The Young Technical Brigades gather more than 140 000 young people from different sectors, while about 500 000 innovators are ANIR affiliates.
