This product entered Cuba in 1748 through business man from Dominican Republic but just 50 years later, its exploitation began with commercial aims, when French people entered Cuba running from the Revolution of Haiti. In 1827 there were about 2000 coffee plantations. The tradition is kept now a days with a plantation located almost always in mountain areas, where climate allows to obtain a product of unique quality.
The Arabic species is the most cultivated in Cuba, with about 12 varieties, which are commercialized with the trademarks: Cubita, Turquino, Cristal Mountain, Serrano and Caracolillo, among others. They are characterized by an aroma impossible to be repeated.
